A festive mug of hot chocolate topped with dairy-free whipped cream and crushed candy canes, surrounded by pine branches, holiday lights, and cinnamon sticks.

This Dairy-Free Peppermint Hot Chocolate is a cozy holiday drink made with rich cocoa, creamy non-dairy milk, and a hint of peppermint. Topped with coconut whipped cream and crushed candy canes, it’s a gluten-free and dairy-free treat that’s as festive as it is delicious.

***All of my recipes are gluten-free, dairy-free, blood sugar-friendly, and gut-supportive. We are all different so you may need to make adjustments based on your body’s unique needs.***

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or coconut, oat, or cashew milk)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (or honey)
  • 1/4 tsp pure peppermint extract
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional toppings: coconut whipped cream, crushed candy canes, shaved dark chocolate

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together almond milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup, peppermint extract, vanilla, and sea salt.
  2. Heat gently over medium heat until hot but not boiling, whisking to smooth out the cocoa.
  3. Pour into festive mugs and top with coconut whipped cream and crushed candy canes.
  4. Garnish with shaved dark chocolate or a cinnamon stick for an extra holiday touch.
  5. Sip and enjoy the cozy holiday cheer!

Recipe Notes:

  1. Swap peppermint extract for a cinnamon stick while heating for a spiced version.
  2. Add a scoop of collagen peptides for extra protein and gut support.
  3. Use dairy-free chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
